Eyeliner is used wrong by so many people and that is why a lot of people think they can’t wear it, which is true, for the way they do.
I am going to explain everything you need to know about how to use eyeliner in this post. I also have a post about the best eyeliner and the different types here in case you are interrested in getting one or learn some more!
Eyeliner can really transform your eyes for the better, for the worse, or just make them look different and can be used in many different ways.
Now first of all, you have to understand that there are different types of eyes and the biggest difference, is between Asian eyes and the rest.
That is the first big difference, we are going to look at. I hope you all agree with me that it looks weird if a European, American or any person that is not Asian, using eyeliner in a way that makes his eyes look asian (unless they want to look like an anime character) and of course vice versa.
In order to explain this, I am going to use the same lines, as in my last blog about eyebrows (if you haven’t yet, you can read it here). It is essential as a non Asian person to follow that outer line to make your eyes look lifted, because your eyes follow your eyeliner.
What most people do, is to draw the eyeliner in a straight line which makes their eyes look Asian, which is perfect if you are Asian, yet doing the same thing on a European eye for example, just looks weird because it doesn’t fit the face.
The same goes for Asian people.
Asian people should not follow this line because then they get European eyes and that looks weird.
Let’s get to the second problem and this is a tricky one.
The second problem has to do with your eyelid itself.
Some are big some are small and the solution to this is actually way easier than you might think.
The ‘’problem’’ lies within the colour of your eyeliner.
Eyeliner most of the time is either black, which is the most common, or any other dark colour and what dark colour does, is that it hides what is underneath.
If you look at an example:
Someone with a small eyelid, using a lot of black eyeliner, would look like they have no eyelid. This also gives them hooded eyes and the whole thing just looks weird even if you just drew the most beautiful eyeliner in the world.
The third problem what most people’s biggest struggle is:
Symmetry, which is not really a problem if you follow the lines I just gave you above.
Problem number four:
‘’How the hell can I draw an eyeliner, that is not smudgy?’’
And now please don’t use any tape for this, because that hurts your face when you pull it off.
Either learn how to draw an eyeliner properly or use a credit card, which by the way also looks nice if you have a good one.
People who actually work as a make-up artist or anything that needs to draw eyeliner for a living, use your business card.
This way you also get free exposure whenever there are pictures taken.
The downside of this, is that it always looks like you are not able to draw a perfect eyeliner but, better safe than sorry.
I hope this helps you draw the perfect eyeliner!
